Knee Pain? Maybe it's your shoes!

Do your knees and ankles hurt after fitness training? The culprit may be your shoes! Not all sneakers are the same! Athletic shoes are designed for specific activities; running, basketball, cross fit, cycling, and just basic fashion street shoes. This is determined by the design of the shoe, the material used and the tread. I learned this the hard way, unfortunately. In my first experiences with dance fitness I wore improper shoes (and probably pushed it a little too hard) and pulled tendons in both feet. I was on crutches for a week!
Okay, so here's the test. Flip your shoe over –Those patterns and groves are there to support the movement of the activity. Run your hand over the bottom of the shoe. A smooth sole with minimal tread is best for dance fitness and HIIT. For my fitness classes, Simply FITX5 and BURNOUT Tabata you need a lightweight shoe made out of mesh or another breathable material. The tread should also be low. Bonus points for a shoe with a pivot ball on the sole! Those are there for circular movement- (those spins you love!). It looks like a circle near the ball of the foot under the big toe area. The category of shoe that is most appropriate for my fitness classes (and other dance and high intensity classes-HIIT) is a cross training shoe. Unlike most running shoes, cross training shoes support movements in all directions. Knee and ankle injuries usually result from trying to twist and turn in a shoe that is not designed to do that. Inappropriate shoes stick to the floor, putting a drag on your foot which can result injury. Nike has some great options and I’ve always been satisfied with their products. Check out the 2 links below for their recommendations. Stay injury free!
